Beth Beenken is a 6th grade History Teacher at Kinard Core Knowledge Middle School. She has been a Mustang for 7 years, but has been an educator for 18 years. Before coming to Kinard, Beth taught at the elementary level (2nd-6th grade), special education, gifted education, and literacy.
Beth received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education K-8, with a minor in Social Studies from Idaho State University, Pocatello, ID. She has a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Lesley University, Cambridge, MA. She has a second Master’s degree in Special Education from the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley, CO. Beth continues to learn and grow as an educator taking advantage of various Professional Development opportunities.
Outside of school, Beth enjoys spending time with her family. She is married to Mark Beenken with whom she just celebrated a 25th wedding anniversary (They bought a tandem bike to celebrate). Beth and Mark have two incredible children. Mary (20) is a junior at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN and Rachel (18) a senior at Fossil Ridge High School. Mary and Rachel spent the past summer working as lifeguards and swimming teachers at Miramont Sports Center.
When Beth is not teaching, she is enjoying hanging out with her family. The Beenken family loves to ski, camp, hike, bike, and spend time with their two Labs, Soren and Elsa. Beth is also a quilter, scrapbooker and the family historian, tracing their family history back through the years.
Beth has a picture from 1918 that is hanging in her classroom. The picture is of her Grandmother Julia Olson, a teacher in a one room classroom in Gardener, North Dakota. Beth’s grandmother was a very important influence in her life and her love for children and passion for teaching developed early. Being a teacher is the only job Beth has ever wanted to do. Beth feels the best part of teaching is helping students make connections between what they are studying and world around them.
